The SBNMS science team just completed a research mission aboard the Scituate based 55' trawler F/V Miss Emily to retrieve spawning sand lance. 16 beam trawl tows on the SW Corner captured 106 sand lance (53 male/53 female) which were successfully strip spawned at sea. The fertilized eggs are now at UCONN for raising under different temp and Co2 conditions to assess sensitivity to climate change parameters. The team will also attempt to take DNA and RNA samples to help us further investigate potential causes behind the sand lance's high CO2 sensitivity.
