NOAA's national marine sanctuary offices and visitor centers are currently closed to the public, and in accordance with Executive Order 13991 - Protecting the Federal Workforce and Requiring Mask Wearing, all individuals in NOAA-managed areas are required to follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidance on mask-wearing and maintaining social distances. Sanctuary waters remain open for responsible use in accordance with CDC guidance, U.S. Coast Guard requirements, and local regulations. 2016 Marine Art Contest

There were 915 entries in the 2016 Massachusetts Marine Educators Marine Art Contest, representing 10 states (although the majority came from Massachusetts). Artwork was judged on creativity, technique and accuracy of artwork in complying with the contest theme of "Marine Biodiversity of Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary." Winning artwork and several of the honorable mentions have been framed and are now part of a traveling exhibit that will tour public venues from September 2016 through May 2017.

In addition to the division winners (High School, Middle School, Elementary School, Scientific Illustration and Computer Graphics/ Photography - click to the appropriate division), we also offered Judges' Choice Awards to highlight sanctuary species diversity and creative ways at depicting these animals. Here are the winners of these additional honors:
